Egg Symbolism

1. Life and Creation:
The egg is universally seen as a symbol of birth, creation, and potential. It holds within it the possibility of new life — a perfect container of unseen forces about to emerge. In cleansing rituals, it represents the power to absorb and transform energies.

2. The Soul or Spirit:
In many traditions (including Mesoamerican, Andean, and Mediterranean), the egg represents the human soul or life force. It’s believed that an egg can mirror or attract the energies of a person, including illnesses, curses, fears, or traumas.

3. Purification and Absorption:
The egg is thought to have a kind of magnetic quality. During a limpia, it is passed over the body to "suck up" or draw out negative energies, spiritual illnesses (mal de ojo, bad luck, heavy emotions). Afterward, the egg can be broken into water and read — its appearance revealing hidden issues.

4. Protection and Renewal:
Eggs also symbolize a fresh start. After a cleansing, it's believed that you are left spiritually "reborn" — much like a chick emerging from an egg. The ritual reinforces the idea of shedding old energies and stepping into a new phase of life.

5. Connection to the Earth and Cosmic Forces:
Some indigenous and folk traditions view the egg as a miniature model of the universe:
